The ultrasonic welding process performed by a collaborative robot brings many advantages during the operation flow, with precision, repeatability, and working speed being key elements in delivering a high-quality finished product that meets elevated standards.
The Fanuc robot is responsible for performing 14 ultrasonic welding points in various positions on the part. The poka-yoke system and pneumatic clamps secure all degrees of freedom of the part. Using force mode, the cobot gently approaches the part and performs the welding without damaging the inner surface.
The assembly and inspection process of the part was developed with the assistance of the mechanical engineering department.
Thus, we developed a custom 3D model using SolidWorks software, through which we perform certain processes, namely: a) insertion of metal clips, b) verification of clip presence, and c) correct positioning of felt.
The presence and positioning verification stages were carried out using Keyence IV3 vision sensors. Depending on the response of the vision sensors (OK/NOK), the in-house developed traceability software generates a label that is applied to the part at the end of the process.
Using a Fanuc industrial robot, a Weiss rotary table, and an automatic double-sided tape dispensing system, we successfully achieved the assembly process in three steps, from raw product to finished product, meeting the client's requirements. The mechanical design and 3D simulation of all these aspects played a key role in developing the custom solution.
The operator places the two parts in poka-yoke systems, and the rotary table indexes to the first position, where the adhesive tape is automatically applied by the robot.
Once the process is complete, the table indexes to position 2, where a system comprising an electric axis and a vacuum area performs a pick-and-place operation.
The process is finalized when the applied pressure on the part meets the client's requirements. At the third indexing position of the rotary table, the operator is responsible for unloading the finished parts and loading new ones.
We have created for DACIA a semi-automated work system that unrolls the film, cuts the adhesive, grabs it with the vacuum gripper and positions it over the plastic letters. The inspection of the adhesive and plastic letters is ensured with a vision camera.
Starting with a three piece mechanical project, we developed a universal equipment that can ensure the assembly process. The procedure consists in laying the pieces in the custom built nests, and with the help of an electrical axis we can easily control and ensure maximum precision. The assembly of the pieces is done with two custom build vacuum and gripper areas.

Following the plastic mass injection, the piece is left with a surplus that needs to be removed. By positioning the piece in the poka-yoke system we ensure the centring and repeatability of the process. A pneumatic claw with custom made blades cuts the surplus and evacuates it.
We validate the request to implement a project through a stage of 3D simulation in a virtual environment that gives us the feasibility of the project.
